Malorie Blackmans trilogy of Noughts and Crosses are three books I go back to again and again.
What do you do at CXCS?
My role varies day to day in the office and I have many responsibilities which include mapping the soil and manure risk maps. I am also the first voice you hear when you call the CXCS office. I have recently started going out on farm and I attended my first show with CXCS last month.
What do you like about working at CXCS?
The people! I get to work with some great people! The girls and Dave in my office are all friendly and are always making me laugh. A happy workplace is the best workplace! This job is also a great way to stay involved with agriculture and not have the constant worry of going down with TB.
What’s your background?
I was lucky to have grown up on farms with a variety of stock. My Mum and Dad had a herd of pedigree Limousins when I was little, and I fell in love with beef cattle at a really young age. When I was younger, I would take part in young handler classes and help my parents on the farm. Now my Mum is starting a new herd of Beef Shorthorns, so I am excited to be helping her and showing at our local shows next year!
What are the values that drive you?
Loyalty, respect, and family.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Currently my partner and I are building our own home so that takes up a lot of my spare time. We are however also starting our own herd of pedigree Pygmy goats. Although they are completely different from the cattle I am used to, they are something new and it’s interesting learning the different requirements they have. Watch out for Painters Pygmies taking over the goat world!
