Under GAEC 7 regulations (7a & 7c), you should not cut or trim hedges between the dates of March 1st and September 1st.
However, if you plan on sowing winter oilseed rape or grass before 1st September, you can apply for a hedge cutting derogation.
To apply you need to email ruralpayments@defra.gov.uk with the following information:
- SBI & business name.
- Reason for requesting the derogation – for example, planting oilseed rape in August quoting GAEC 7a.
- List of full RPA parcel numbers, where the hedges are located, or a map identifying the fields and section of hedges to be trimmed.
- If you have any photos/ additional diagrams, these should also be submitted with your application.
