The EA has committed to publishing new guidance by early Spring that will allow farmers to spread manure on fields this autumn. The EA, which has been criticised for its strict interpretation of the 2018 Farming Rules for Water has said that the agency would take a ‘risk-based approach’ to autumn muckspreading. The new guidance would be issued for farmers to confirm how and when manure can be spread on fields.
The EA are keen to issue the guidance in the next three to four months to give farmers plenty of warning. The new guidance will take a sensible, risk-based approach so that some organic manure can go on the land this autumn, whilst other materials will remain prohibited.
