Trading Standards Inspections
The Inspection
This is very similar to a Red Tractor farm assurance audit. Trading Standards check that farms are correctly registered for the appropriate Feed Hygiene Regulation, storage and preparation of animal feed. However, they only carry out inspections on 4% of farms that are members of a Red Tractor scheme. These often act like dummy inspections. Unless you are seriously breaking regulations or the law, you will not be referred to a Defra inspection.
Trading Standards will check:
- Movement records
- Veterinary and medicine book
- Rat baiting plans / competency
- Veterinary and medicine storage
- Pesticide storage / competency for spraying
- Agricultural fuel storage
- Feed storage and preparation equipment (e.g. mixer wagons)
- Livestock transport (if transporting own)
- Livestock housing and welfare
