Welsh Grants aimed at improving water quality and locking in carbon | News | CXCS

There are a series of capital grants available under the Glastir Small Grants Scheme, which provides money for farmers and landowners to boost their land’s environmental benefits. It is a standalone scheme, split into 3 themes, and the applicant can apply for a maximum of £5,000 per theme. The themes are water, landscape and pollinators, and carbon.

Water

This theme is designed to encourage farmers and landowners to install capital works that will improve water quality and reduce flooding.

Application window: July 2018 – August 2018

Items include (but are not limited to):

  • New Hedge Planting
  • Planting new trees & shrubs
  • Cross Drains
  • Water Downpipes & Guttering

Landscape & Pollinators

Aimed at enhancing landscape features and providing habitats for pollinator insect species.

Application window: March 2019 – April 2019

Items include (but are not limited to):

  • Post & Rail Fencing
  • Water Troughs and piping
  • Pond Restoration
  • Hedge Laying
  • Dry Stone Wall Restoration

Carbon

This theme consists of capital works items that will help to lock in carbon, on the land in the agreement.

Application window: November 2019 – December 2019

Items include (but are not limited to):

  • New Hedge Planting
  • Orchard Trees (plus guard & stake)
  • Bramble/Scrub Control (Hand Knapsack Sprayer)
  • Water Gates
  • Wooden Stiles

All agreement holders with a current Glastir Small Grants scheme are reminded that the deadline to claim for all completed works, is the 31st March 2018.
