Laying Hen Housing Grants

Applications are now open for a new grant for hen housing, which is available to laying hen and pullet farmers in England with flocks of 1,000 birds or more. This laying hen housing for health & welfare grant can be used to part fund two different types of projects:

  • Between £5,000 and £100,000 is available toward the cost of installing a new veranda on an existing building.
  • Between £15,000 and £500,000 is available toward the cost of refurbishing or replacing existing laying hen and pullet housing.

Grants for installing a new veranda on an existing building will be awarded on a first come first served basis because they are simpler. All eligible projects will need to meet Defra’s high welfare standard. Projects to refurbish or replace existing buildings are more varied, which means that they are scored to ensure that those projects that best meet the grant priorities go forward.

Full guidance, including a link to the online checker where you start your application can be viewed here. Initial applications via the online checker close on the 18th of September 2024.
