The online consultation on ELMS has re-opened for comments until 11:45pm on 31st July 2020, with paper versions available.
ELMS (Environmental Land Management Scheme) will ultimately replace the Basic Payment Scheme, as payments for BPS are reduced from 2021. The scheme will largely focus on environmental protection and enhancement as the name suggests, with pilot schemes being launched early next year.
A policy document sets out the aims of the scheme, and the areas where farmers and landowners are likely to be able to gain funding.
Uptake to the current environmental scheme, Countryside Stewardship, has been minimal due to the various problems from application stage to payments. Now is the time to voice your opinion on what the new scheme should or shouldn’t be like, and how it can best support the agricultural industry post-Brexit.
Various webinars on the scheme and consultations will also be running throughout July. Click here to book your place.
