This is the most promising scheme we have seen in a long time for smaller farming businesses, which looks to be extremely popular. The Scheme provides funding for projects in England which improve productivity in the farming and forestry sectors, hopefully creating jobs and growth in the rural economy.
There are five grants under the Countryside Productivity Scheme which are:
- water resource management and reservoirs
- improving forestry productivity
- adding value to Agri-Food
- improving farm productivity
- small grants
The grants are funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and administered by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).
Government guarantee post Brexit
If Britain is to leave the European Union after the grant is agreed and signed before the UK’s departure from the EU, even if the grant agreements continue after the UK has left the EU, the British government has guaranteed the funding.
This is subject to projects meeting the following conditions when the application is assessed:
- it is good value for money
- it is in line with domestic strategic priorities
