Managing people and maintaining compliance with HR and Health & Safety responsibilities can be challenging for many businesses, particularly for small and medium-sized organisations where managers often juggle multiple roles.

To support local employers, CXCS will be hosting a free HR and Health & Safety breakfast seminar on Thursday 16 April at Chapter House, Belmont Abbey in Hereford.

The event will bring together CXCS specialists and guest speakers to share practical insights into common workplace challenges and how businesses can manage them effectively.

Practical guidance for employers and managers

This seminar is designed for business owners, directors, managers and anyone responsible for HR or Health & Safety within their organisation.

The focus will be on providing clear, practical advice that businesses can apply in day-to-day situations, rather than simply discussing legislation.

Topics being covered during the morning include:

  • Managing difficult conversations for managers and business owners
  • Understanding the real cost of absenteeism and why strong policies matter
  • Risk assessments and method statements – why they are essential
  • Practical HR and Health & Safety insights for employers

Each session will be delivered as a short presentation designed to provide useful takeaways for organisations of all sizes.

Expert speakers

The seminar will include speakers from CXCS alongside guest contributors who work closely with businesses across the region.

  • Paul from Wilford Smith Solicitors will discuss the real cost of absenteeism and why clear policies are essential for employers, exploring how absence can impact organisations financially and operationally.
  • Chris from CXCS will explain risk assessments and method statements and why they play an important role in protecting both employees and organisations.
  • Karen Powell, Managing Director of CXCS, will introduce the event and provide a short overview of CXCS services and the support available to businesses.
  • Rhiannon from CXCS will share practical Health & Safety insights for employers, focusing on steps organisations can take to manage workplace responsibilities effectively.
  • Stacey from CXCS will explore managing difficult conversations in the workplace, offering practical guidance for managers and business owners dealing with challenging situations.
Networking and breakfast

The seminar will take place in the historic setting of Chapter House at Belmont Abbey, providing a relaxed environment where attendees can enjoy a full English breakfast while connecting with other local businesses.

Events like this offer a valuable opportunity to step away from day-to-day pressures, gain fresh insights and discuss common challenges with other employers.
