Capital Grants
Capital items to achieve specific environmental benefits
The Capital Grants 2026 offer is now closed, after the available £225 million budget was fully allocated.
Defra has confirmed that approximately 17,000 applications were submitted from farms and land managers across England. Applications are now being assessed and agreements issued, with offers expected to continue throughout the remainder of 2026 due to the volume of applications received.
If you submitted an application, it is important to make sure any requested supporting evidence and documentation is provided promptly to avoid unnecessary delays.
Our Stewardship & Grants team can support farmers with existing Capital Grant applications and agreements, as well as helping identify other funding opportunities that may be suitable for your farm business.

Existing Capital Grant agreements
If you have received a Capital Grant agreement, it is important to understand the requirements and deadlines that apply throughout the agreement.
This includes making sure works are completed in accordance with the agreement, retaining the necessary records and evidence and submitting claims within the required timescales.
If you have previously completed works under a Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier, Higher Tier or earlier Capital Grant agreement, it is also worth checking that:
- all outstanding claims have been submitted
- your final claim has been confirmed through the Rural Payments service
- the relevant records and supporting evidence are retained.
