As part of our service, we provide manure analysis and water testing to help farms meet Red Tractor and LEAF Farm Assurance standards.

Manure analysis – Red Tractor standards

Red Tractor standards require fertiliser and manure applications to be planned and justified based on the nutrient requirements of the crop. Decisions must be supported by regular analysis of soil, plant or nutrient solution, together with knowledge of the nutrient content of any organic manures applied.

The nutrient content of organic manures must be known and justified. This can be determined through laboratory analysis or standard references such as RB209. All manure and fertiliser applications must therefore be:

  • Planned
  • Justified
  • Based on the nutrient requirement of the crop

Regular manure analysis helps demonstrate compliance with Red Tractor standards and supports nutrient planning records required for inspections.

Water testing – Red Tractor Fresh Produce

Red Tractor Fresh Produce standards require irrigation water to be analysed by a UKAS accredited laboratory (or laboratory accredited to ISO 17025 standards). Testing must include E. coli analysis where required within the laboratory’s accredited scope.

This testing is required to demonstrate compliance with food safety requirements.

Water monitoring – LEAF standards

LEAF standards require farms to monitor the quality of surface water on the farm. The focus is on monitoring natural surface water from an ecological and environmental perspective to demonstrate good environmental management.
